A nice walk along a shaded stream.
Description
Hike from the parking lot at
Chaney Trail and hike up Mt. Lowe Road 0.3 miles then turn left onto Sunset Ridge Trail. After another 0.3 miles, keep left at a fork near a cabin. This is the start of the path although it is an unofficial but well used route.
The path is relatively easy to follow up the canyon and there are places of good tread. Near the junction with the Dawn Mine Trail, there is a fork leading down to the canyon bottom and the mine. The mine is closed off for public protection but there are many relics nearby.
This route makes a good loop when combined with the Sunset Ridge Trail and the Dawn Mine Trail.
Flora & Fauna
Alder, maple, bay, oak and bigcone spruce trees provide ample shade. Beware of poison oak.
