This trail is fairly wide and not too steep, which makes it a great connector for this system.

Family Friendly Though there is some climbing along the way, this route is short, and leaves from the campground, making it a good adventure for youngsters.

Description

This is an easier trail that cuts through the Douthat State Park. Backway Hollow connects the Salt Stump Trail, and Laurel View Trail.

The trail descends slightly from the campground before a gentle climb (for Douthat) followed by rolling terrain. It's mostly smooth without major obstacles, which makes it popular. Enjoy the views of the lake in the first few hundred feet of the trail, as soon the dense forest will obscure your sightlines. This route is especially scenic in the fall.
