A haul up the butte, a nice loop around the top, and then a quick downhill.

Features Views

There is an area on the east side of the main road that is closed due to a rock slide last summer.

Description

Phipps is a great park for hiking, running, biking, frisbee golf, exercising the dogs, etc. The trail mapped out here starts at the kiosk just up from the parking lot.

Skip the main road up the hill and follow the paths off to the right. Hug the butte around to the west until you get to the big uphill haul. Once on top, go right and follow the loop all the way around the plateau. There are great views in all directions. When you're done, head back the main road down the hill all the way back to the kiosk or the parking lot.

There are multiple levels of trails around the top so you don't often have to take the same route twice. There are also trails leading off east around the base of the butte.

Flora & Fauna

Besides the usual critters, one time I saw a sheep up on top.
