Description
The trail begins just inside the gates of the nature preserve and immediately veers to the east. The majority of this trail is under a thick canopy of small and medium growth hardwood trees providing a nice shaded hike, especially in the heat of summer.
The trail drops and rises in a few places with steps in place to lessen the tripping hazards, and continues to follow the elevation lines of a nearby unnamed creek. The path is fairly sandy but does have some exposed roots in places so watch your footing. There is also a fair amount of poison ivy and oak near the trail so take the necessary precautions when utilizing this route.
Eventually, the trail reaches the small lake in the center of the preserve where you'll have optimal bird viewing and overall great vantage points. The trail then reconnects with the
Post Oak Trail at its southern terminus. Overall, it's a very pretty hike through some lush vegetation with great views and plenty to enjoy.
Flora & Fauna
As with most of the nature preserves that surround the Trinity River, it is home to many species of bird and wildlife. Most importantly, this trail in particular is crawling with poison ivy and poison oak so take the necessary precautions to reduce any contact with the plants.
