Trail shared by Joseph John

This beautiful, moderate trail follows a canyon filled with panoramic views and plenty of opportunity for adventure!

To get to the trailhead, you're going to need a high-clearance vehicle with 4-wheel drive or at least a locking rear differential, or an offroad-worthy motorcycle (e.g. a dirtbike). While the first portion of the road is now paved, don't be fooled – the rock obstacle at the end of the pavement gives you an idea of what's to come. For reference, you can make it in a stock Jeep Grand Cherokee while only bottoming out two or three times. It is a very secluded trail for this reason. Enjoy!

Description

This is a beautiful, moderate trail (with overnight spots available) that gives way to spectacular views of the Sedona landscape. To complete it in its entirety, this trail serves up a 10 mile out and back, but have no fear–the majority of the trail is creekside, and there's plenty of shade.

There is no sign or amazing overlook at the end screaming YOU HAVE REACHED THE END OF THE TRAIL. In fact, the last mile can be a letdown with a lot of dead and downed trees and what looks to be the aftermath of a pretty bad microburst. Nonetheless, this trail is worth experiencing if you have a vehicle that can make it to the trailhead, and you're looking for complete beauty and solitude in the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness.

Flora & Fauna

Bobcat tracks can often be seen along some of the pooled areas. Otherwise, expect to see a lot of juniper, pine, and manzanita.
