Family Friendly This trail is paved and flat. So it is easy for the whole family, and kids will enjoy the castle-like foundation.

Description

This trail begins just across the street from the parking area for the Rockwood Hall section of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve. Follow the trail west towards the Hudson River, but stay on the right hand fork to head towards the Rockwood Hall foundation. The foundation is all that is left of the 220 room mansion that once stood here. However, just the foundation is impressive and good views can be had of the Hudson Valley. At the northern end of the trail past the foundation you'll find the Upper Trail and the Middle Trail to extend the hike if you wish. The loop heads east away from the Hudson through the flat meadow of the preserve. It then heads south and loops back west to rejoin the "handle" of the lollipop just south of the actual foundation.
