Description

This gravel road is designed as an access road for the White Oak Boat-In Campground to allow Forest Service personnel to maintain the campground. The road is gated, however, so it makes a good doubletrack option for hiking or biking. The trailhead is located at a parking lot near the Marsh Branch boat ramp. Note that parking at the boat ramp itself requires a use permit, but the trailhead parking is outside the fee area.

From the parking lot, the road climbs a short hill then follows a ridgeline in the middle of a peninsula in Laurel Lake. The area is wooded, so views of the lake are rare along the road itself. As you progress down the road, you'll start to see other side roads branching off to the various areas of the spread-out campground. Each campground area generally contains pit toilets and a water faucet (turned off during winter months) and offer various areas with easy access to the lakeshore. At a few places along the road you may notice trail signs - the Cold Rock School Trail loops around the peninsula and intersects the roads in several places.
