The park closes at dark.
This route takes you through several of the Northlake Nature Center's trails, provides access to several scenic areas, and a nice opportunity to stretch the legs.
Need to Know
The right-of-way can flood fairly quickly. If this is the case, there is an extension of the Savanna Lake Trail
which serves as an alternate entrance to the North Loop Trail
. This will serve to bypass the flooded area.
From the parking area, follow the Acclimatization Trail
across the marsh and make a left hand turn as the trail moves past the amphitheater on the Eagle Trail
. Turn right on the pipeline/power right-of-way following the Eagle Trail
. Shortly after starting in on the Eagle Trail
, there will be a left hand turn for the South Loop Trail
Eventually there will be a turnoff for the South Loop Swamp Walk Bypass Trail
. Follow this to a nice overlook of the swamp. This trail can be followed back to the South Loop Trail
, or you can backtrack and follow the right-of-way. Make a left onto the South Loop Trail
and follow the winding path through the woods enjoying several turn-offs for scenic points.
The South Loop Trail
will exit back onto the right-of-way. A sharp left will put you back onto the North Loop Trail
. Several hundred yards onto the new trail, turn left to follow the Savanna Lake Trail
. The Savanna Lake Trail
will re-merge with the North Loop Trail
, which can be followed for quite some time. This trail will also open back up to the right-of-way.
From here, take a long straight, somewhat monotonous trek down the right-of-way to bring you back to the beginning.
