Description

This trail is a loop off the Madrone Trail #4. It is one of the highlights of the park. Regardless of whether you hike clockwise or counterclockwise, the trail starts with a pretty steep, technical ascent on loose rocks and ends with an equally steep, technical descent on loose rocks.

Particularly with the counterclockwise direction, you'll have a pretty good preview of the climb starting from the Madrone Trail #4 so you can see what you are up against before you commit to hiking the full trail.

Once you've conquered the short but steep climb, take a moment to savor the view back towards the southeast. Then you'll be rewarded with some fun, flat, gently-curving singletrack cruising up on the mesa with only a few rocks in the way. You'll have another viewpoint of the Hill Country towards the northeast about halfway into the loop.

Finally, you can look forward to the moderately technical, 200-foot descent on gently-curving singletrack to connect you back to the Madrone Trail #4.
