Description
This trail is an easy hike that routes visitors close to the Mississippi River as well as passing Native American burial mounds. The mounds were constructed over 1000 years ago by the Woodland Culture. In summer, the entire site is covered in prairie wildflowers.
Site address is 870 S. Pilot Knob Road, Galena, IL 61036.
The park itself is managed by a non-profit organization, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation. All trails and amenities are maintained by the donations from visitors, which are accepted at the kiosk by the parking lot.
Flora & Fauna
Views of prairie grasses and wildflowers abound, especially in the spring.
