This trail begins at Hazard Canyon Road
to the north and terminates at Islay Creek Road
in the south. It can be accessed by hiking up Hazard Canyon Road
, Islay Creek Road
, or Hazard Peak Trail
If hiking from Hazard Canyon, take a right onto the trail and continue left at the intersection with Hazard Peak Trail
. If hiking from Hazard Peak Trail
, keep right when that trail terminates and comes to a T intersection with East Boundary Trail. From here, keep left at the intersection with Barranca Trail
. These intersections are well signed.
The trail runs up and over a small ridgeline with moderate grades. This section of trail is flowy, well-graded, well-maintained singletrack made for mountain bikers. At the top of the ridge, you'll see a trail tool station...from here the trail turns into a steep downhill that is severely rutted due to MTB usage and recent heavy rains. It is technical on a dry day and almost impossible after a rain—a real ankle breaker. Still, the technicality is part of what makes this a worthy trail.
