Description
From the junction of the
Big Balanced Rock Trail and
Heart of Rocks Loop, the Sarah Deming Trail heads generally east through the maze of rocks. The trail descends into Sarah Deming Canyon, and to get there, you'll get to squeeze through pathways through the rocks. This makes the hike much more interesting than simply working your way through the forest.
Once hikers leave the interesting pathways behind, the trail descends further into Sarah Deming Canyon, then hugs the edge of Rhyolite Canyon to meet up with the
Upper Rhyolite Canyon Trail and Lower Rhyolite Canyon Trail. As the trail approaches the junction, views begin to open up of the formations in the canyon below, as well as up to Sugarloaf Mountain.
At 1.6 miles from its beginning, the Sarah Deming Trail ends at the Rhyolite Trail, with the Upper Rhyolite Trail turning right (this can be used to return to the Echo Canyon Parking Area via the
Echo Canyon Trail) and the Lower Rhyolite Trail turning left (this can be used to return to the visitor center).
