Connemara Meadow Preserve is open from dusk to dawn. Foot traffic only. No bikes or motorized vehicles. Dogs are allowed, but by permit only. Check out the park's website for applications at connemaraconservancy.org.

Overview

This is a hidden gem in the middle of suburban Dallas which is largely unknown to its local residents. This is a great local place to take the family to connect with nature.

In spring and summer when the foliage is at its peak, there is a great sense of solitude here. It is a peaceful nature retreat from the noise of the city.

Description

The trail starts at Suncreek Park in Allen where you travel less than half a mile before turning to the right where you cross a bridge. The entrance to the Connemara Meadow is directly past the bridge on your left. The singletrack trail winds briefly through an old growth pecan stand, then follows a mowed path around the outskirts of the meadow.

There is some brief elevation gain on the southwest end since the meadow is terraced. The trail can be wet in places as well as presenting many tripping hazards via small holes created by the local wildlife, mainly armadillos. At the end of your trip around the meadow, you exit in the same location you entered.

Flora & Fauna

A managerie of flora and fauna are present in the meadow. Please see connemaraconservancy.org for a full listing of local wildlife.
