Description

From the Eucs MTB park, follow a fire road on the north side of the park and hang a left before it dead ends. This is the beginning of Shooters Trail. Continue on Shooters for a few hundred meters to a 3-way intersection and take the left fork, this is the beginning of Morning Glory Trail.

The flora immediately changes from the Irish looking scenery common to San Luis Obispo to a more scraggly, rugged scenery characterized by high brush and small evergreens. The trail is very rocky, making it much easier to go up than down. For this reason I suggest any loop done in this area following Morning Glory/Botanical uphill and Shooters downhill. There are several small stream crossings when it rains. The grade is consistent and moderate with well-built switchbacks.

This is a common downhill mountain bike shuttle trail that has become highly eroded over the last decade. Keep any eye out for college students on high speed downhill runs, they do not always follow good trail etiquette. The suggestion to do the loop clockwise is a good one. Walking downhill on this trail is like walking on large marbles. May 2, 2018
