Overview

Park in the Wakefield sports fields lots and take the CCT down and around Lake Accotink.

Need to Know

Bathrooms and water fountains are available at both Wakefield and Lake Accotink. The water fountains are turned off during the winter though.

Description

This is a great hike by itself or you can easily extend it by adding mileage on the CCT.

From the Wakefield parking lots take the CCT south before it combines with the Lake Accotink Trail in less than a mile.

The first 1.5 miles or so on the CCT will be a mixture of pavement and dirt trail. You'll follow the Lake Accotink Trail down to the marina. At the 2.5-mile mark, you'll hike by the dam and after a short but steep climb you'll be back on rolling trails for the back half of the lake.

At the 4-mile mark there will be a winding paved path on the right down to a playground. Continue through the circle and up the road to the elementary school. Keep going past the school and down the other side of the hill. You'll see the trail go back into the woods.

After the sharp descent cross the wooden bridge and turn right to cross the creek. Turn left back onto the CCT before returning to your car less than a mile later.

For those who want a longer hike continue on the CCT either north of Wakefield or south of Lake Accotink.
