Description

This is the main spine trail of the Gordon River Greenway. This portion of the 2.3 miles of asphalt, mulch, and boardwalk trails meanders through scrubby flatwood and mangrove communities. The trail is 12 feet wide and the boardwalk is 10 feet wide and both are designed for passive recreational activities such as walking, jogging, biking, roller-blading, and skateboarding.

The boardwalk crosses the Gordon River, providing a beautiful view of surrounding preserve lands and the Gordon River. At the southern end, a large restoration project has been completed replanting native hammock species and wildflowers. There is a fishing platform and look-out shelter on the south side of the river crossing.

Flora & Fauna

Buttonwood and white mangroves line the boardwalk as it meanders south. On the south side of this trail, a large restoration project is recreating a coastal hammock. Many species of wading birds can be seen along the river. Occasionally, a manatee can be seen.
