Description

Starting at the Lafayette Place Campground (93-S), the trail begins with an easy jaunt through Lafayette Place crossing over a few small brooks. Afterward, the trail brings moderate steepness as it passes the junction with Hi-Cannon Trail. The trail continues to climb for about 0.8 miles before flattening out significantly near the juncture for the Lonesome Lake Hut and dodge cut-off to Hi-Cannon Trail. Here, you can take a loop around Lonesome Lake to visit the AMC hut and cross to the Fishin' Jimmy Trail, which would bring you farther west toward Kinsman Pond and the North and South Peaks of Kinsman Mountain.

Continuing up the Lonesome Lake Trail from the hut, the trail continues to be relatively flat at first, then begins to climb increasingly steeper grades. At this point, the trail evens-out and joins with the Kinsman Ridge Trail, which continues to the right toward Cannon Mountain or to the left toward the Kinsman Pond Shelter.

During the winter and early spring months, this trail can be packed with snow. Luckily, this trail is so frequently traveled that unless you're traveling through a snowstorm or after fresh snow, it's likely to be packed.

In the late spring, summer, and fall, exposed roots and rocks make for uneven footing.
