Family Friendly This short loop is a great intro to the prairie that won't tire out younger kids.

The trails at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie are open year-round from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Description

This short loop is easily accessed and quickly completed, making it a great intro to the open grasslands of the prairie and a good option for families. Keep on the lookout for wildlife and birds as you travel.

The trail heads north from the Explosives Road Trailhead toward a clump of trees. It soon crosses a faint stream. Before the woods are reached, the loop begins circling back to cross over the Henslow Trail two times in short succession. The trail quickly concludes back where it started.
