Family Friendly Kids can certainly handle this trail's short length and gentle grades.

The trails in Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie are open year-round from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Description

Named for George Newton, whose grave marker sits alongside the trail, this short loop begins at the Explosives Road Trailhead. From there, it gently cuts left through a tree-lined field to intersect with the Henslow Trail.

Turn right on the crushed rock and follow the Henslow Trail until the Newton Loop Trail heads back into the grass before Prairie Creek. The return to the trailhead follows a chain-link fence along the road.
