Description

The Kigalia Canyon Trail (026) descends from Elk Ridge into Peavine Canyon, where it eventually ends into Peavine Corridor Road (089). The small spring at the start is named Kigalia Spring, which is an alteration of Kaa'yelii, the name of a Navajo shepherd in the area in the late 1800's.

Begin gently descending through a grove of aspens. Keep left to stay above the nearby stream and to head toward Peavine Canyon to the north. The grade steepens as you leave the aspens behind and continue through evergreen groves. The grade slackens for a bit at the one-mile mark before another short descent. The rest of the trail is a mellow rolling descent beneath Peavine Corridor Road (089).
