A quick, six-ish mile lollipop loop, hitting White Rock Mountain and Mount Hunger. This hike is full of some challenging terrain and beautiful views.
Features: Fall Colors — Spring — Views
Parts of this hike are steep and there are exposed sections.
From the parking area follow the Trailhead Connector to the Middlesex Access Road
and follow it up to the start of the Middlesex Trail
. Around 1.5 miles diverge left at the intersection with the White Rock Trail
. A long steep climb takes hikers to the summit for an exposed rocky expanse with multiple viewing angles of Mount Hunger and the surrounding valleys and mountains.
Next, follow the White Rock Trail
along a wooded ridgeline over to the Waterbury Trail, just below the summit of Hunger Mountain. There's another large exposed area with views! When you're ready, start down the Middlesex Trail
for a quite steep descent. Expect more exposed scrambles, and at one point, a rope to help hikers keep their footing.
Eventually, the Middlesex Trail
mellows out and the remaining hike back to the access road and parking area is a nice cooldown.
