Description

The Rosalie Trail is a fairly popular trail that extends from the top of Guanella Pass to the edge of the Mt Evans Wilderness where it connects to the Tanglewood Trail #636 and the Deer Creek Valley Trailhead. The scenery along the way is varied and includes spectacular views of Mt. Bierstadt and the south side of Mount Evans.

The trail starts above treeline before descending gradually for about 5 miles. From here, you'll climb again back up to above treeline and above 11,000 feet between Kataka Mountain and Rosalie Peak. After this climb, the trail will descend steadily to its junction with the Tanglewood Trail #636.

The trail also intersects the Abyss Lake, Threemile, and Tanglewood Trail #636, for the option of extended hikes or varied loops and out and backs. Be prepared for the possibility of late afternoon thunderstorms.

Flora & Fauna

Aspens, spruce, and ponderosa pine. Many wildflowers in season including columbines, indian paintbrush, sweet peas, lupine, larkspur, fireweed, bluebells, and candytuft. High alpine wildflowers like alpine forget-me-nots and moss campion. Mule deer, dusky grouse, and jays in the aspens.

Looking northwest from the saddle at 11,600. coming from Tanglewood Trail, much of the trail is below treeline and rather boring until you get to about 11,400', at which point it becomes really beautiful.
