This is a brutal and challenging climb from Sand Lick up to the ridge top. Between the destruction of the 4x4 crowd and the efforts of the Forest Service to stop the destruction, the road surface is inconsistent. The trail is there, but it's no walk in the park. That said, this is an important connector between other trails and routes in the area.

The worst damage is at the upper (east) end and is manageable, but you won't be able to keep a steady cadence on the climb.
