Family Friendly When gated this is a great road for families and beginners as there are no steep grades and it is well maintained.

Varies. Check the Daniel Boone National Forest webpage for latest closure and opening news.

Description

Indian Creek Road provides access to a large swath of National Forest outside the Red River Gorge proper. This area is popular with car campers primarily, but also with fisher-people, traditional rock climbers, and adventurous hikers and runners.

From time to time the US Forest Service closes all or portions of this road and its two forks providing a nice, quiet, experience. When the gates are locked, the road is a great hike. This is also a great time to just get away from everything.

When the gates are open I wouldn't recommend this road for families as there can be heavy motor vehicle traffic, especially on the weekends.
