Because of the makeup of the soil, please do not use the Hogsback Trail if it is wet. We don't want to trash this great trail.

Description

The Hogsback is seen from almost everywhere in Durango and beckons you to climb it. If climbed, you'll be rewarded with a great workout and amazing views.

There are several options of climbing Hogsback, but the one that I most often use begins by going up Brown's Ridge and turning right onto the Hogsback Trail.

After turning right at the junction, this trail is almost a continuously, steep trail to the top. About 2/3 of the way up you'll come to a junction, turn left for the final push up Hogsback. Once getting to the top, enjoy the views of Durango and the surrounding peaks.

At this point, you can either go back the way you came or continue on down the backside of Hogsback for a short, steep descent. Once you are down at the base of the backside, you'll come to a trail sign, turn right and switchback down on the fun Perins Gulch Trail, to end up at Perins Gulch.

This trail can be completed in either direction.
