Overview

This route is great to do in the evenings when you can see the sunset over the valley; however, it is often more crowded then. Definitely plan on a good climb on your way up, and if you plan on watching the sunset, make sure to bring a headlamp for the way down as it's pretty steep!

Need to Know

Make sure to bring enough water! I've seen individuals using trekking poles for the way down, as the footing can be loose.

Description

From the parking lot you find a trail sign showing you a map on how to get to the top. Take the trail up the mountain following the switchbacks to the top of the Y. While the route is fairly steep, the trail is well maintained and commonly traveled, and it is impossible to get lost. If you don't want to go to the top of the 'Y' (as the trail shows on the map) you can just go to the base of the 'Y' by taking a trail that breaks off to the left near the top.

History & Background

The 'Y' used to be the largest college letter on a mountain in the nation.
