Overview

This combination of trails is a popular point-to-point route in the heart of the Beartooth Mountains. In addition to spectacular views, this trail offers easy access and shuttling.

Need to Know

Weather at this altitude can change at any time, so just be prepared.

Description

Park one car at Beartooth Lake, then drive to Island Lake. Follow the Beartooth High Lakes Trail, which is on the left side of the lake NW. You'll pass about 10 glacier lakes and have views of the Beartooth Mountains. For the first 3.5 miles, you are above the timberline in an alpine environment, with wildflowers everywhere between July and late August.

At 3.5 miles, you turn south down a steep embankment and head toward Beartooth Lake. At this point, you'll be on the Beauty Lake Trail. The views and expanses of this glacial region are spectacular. Also, this trail is easily accessible, as long as you are in this area. Also, make sure you explore the rest of this area as there are many great trails nearby.

Flora & Fauna

Wildflowers from July-late August, fish, and very few humans.
