Description

Climbing from Reyes Creek Camp, the trail winds around up a drainage, through oaks and pines. At three miles you come to Upper Reyes Creek Camp with plenty of shade and water. The brush is a bit tall, but it makes for a very scenic area.

Once through the brush, you'll continue on to a climb over to the Bear Trap drainage. At the top of the climb, take a moment to take in the sights. Views down Lockwood Valley and into the Cuyama Valley are stunning.

Continuing on, you pass through Bear Trap Camp. In this section, take note of the unique sandstone slabs on the north side of the trail. Finally, you'll be climbing to a saddle and trail junction where you can continue on the Gene Marshall Trail or turn right and climb up to Haddock and Reyes Peaks.

I turned around at this point to make a 15mi out and back.
