Description
Typically the Crack Trail is accessed from Voo Doo Rocks trail or the Dam
Connector Trail. Crack trail proves a wonderful addition to any outing in this beautiful forest.
The trail is mostly fast with twisty turns and short stretches where the trail gets mildly rocky. The crux is the namesake crack section, which takes you inside a narrow gap between boulders leading to a turn and then a drop for the exit. This was renovated in 2014 making it much easier to navigate. A ladder bridge was installed elevating visitors and providing a more mild descent instead of having to negotiate the drop. These changes are much appreciated.
After the crack, the fun continues all the way down to a stream crossing where a left-hand turn takes visitors onto a wide section of trail. Theres no free lunch. You had your fun, now it will be time to pay it back with an ascent to the
Race Loop trail. None of the climbs at Big Bear are really that bad, so you'll find yourself at the top without too much trouble.
Most will turn right at the top and use
Race Loop trail to head out to the Pine area.
