Family Friendly This short, easy hike off of Highway 24 offers a chance to get out of the car and enjoy the view.

Description

One of the shortest hikes in Capitol Reef, this trail offers dramatic views of the geologic layers surrounding visitors. Separated from the main scenic drive and the Fruita Historic District, this trail gives you a chance to have some space to sit and enjoy the beauty, as long as you avoid the area at sunset.

Park at the trailhead and hike just .1 mile uphill to the overlook. Below you to the south, you'll see the twist and turns of Sulphur Creek, which give this trail it's name. Take note of how powerful the small creek must be to carve such a large channel through the rock over millions of years. Return to your car the same way you came up.
