A beautiful, somewhat challenging hike to Squaw Peak.

Overview

Features: Views — Wildlife

Description

Near the Provo Temple, follow Rock Canyon Trail until it forks. Going left (north) on Squaw Peak Trail, it wraps around the mountain, taking you through some decent climbs and beautiful views of Mt. Timpanogos. It's worth spending some time at the top, taking in the view of mountains you just can't see from the valley.

The map would seem to suggest coming down from Rock Canyon campground on the Squaw Peak road, and then turning north. Instead, consider following the written description, and hike up from the Rock Canyon trailhead behind the temple, and then turn north. The trail may seem longer than some direct routes from the overlook or the road near Buffalo Peak, but it should be distinctly easier hiking. Sep 28, 2017
