Family Friendly Even if your end destination is the summit, kids will get a great feeling of accomplishment from reaching the top of Neighbor Mountain.

Description

Begin this trail from the Neighbor Mountain Parking Area where you can either take the Neighbor Mtn Spur or the AT Access-Neighbor Mtn Parking.

After heading on the Neighbor Mtn Spur, visitors will begin by embarking on a portion of the AT: Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PA/MD/VA/WV), which is blazed with white, and if you're unsure just keep an eye out for the blazes. The AT: Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PA/MD/VA/WV) will then mirror Skyline Drive as it begins to head north.

Visitors will follow the AT: Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PA/MD/VA/WV) for a few hundred yards to the north until reaching an intersection with the Neighbor Mountain Trail. From there, visitors will make a left turn heading west.

This yellow-blazed trail covers some stretches of technical terrain. Visitors will continue on as the trail traverses a ridgeline. Take your time in this section, and enjoy the features specific to the higher elevation. Sharp eyes will spot beautiful white birch trees, a rare species in the area. After a few miles of ridgetop travel, the trail begins to lose elevation steadily. There will be a few steep drops, use caution and proceed slowly.

Switchbacks make the downward progression more comfortable, though the way is still steep as the trail ends at Jeremys Run Trail.
