Description

This hike starts at a well-marked trailhead with a privy and plenty of trailhead camping available. Make note of the wooden sign to the left of the toilet that appears to be a yellow horseshoe. You'll see this same sign at the end of the road on the hike.

For the first 1.8 miles, you'll be following an old logging road. This has a nice gradual incline and it is slightly overgrown in areas. At the end of this road, you'll see the yellow horseshoe sign.

At this point, you'll start to follow cairns to the East, your left. The trail will quickly become steeper and you'll be hiking through some rock outcroppings. While trail finding may be a bit trickier through this section, it is well-marked with cairns throughout. You'll continue to hike through fields of sage and juniper winding uphill, with fantastic views to the West and South. This will give you a great view of Granite and Fire Mountain! At around 3.6 miles, you'll reach your high point on Edds Mountain. From here you can scramble to the top, if you are so inclined.

Otherwise, continue on the grassy slopes of the mountain, viewing one of the most magnificent wildflower displays in Washington! Between the wildflowers and the 180-degree views, this section of trail is spectacular in every sense!

From here you'll continue on to the saddle between Edds and Bald Mountains. You'll gain the saddle at around 4 miles. You'll then casually gain some elevation and cross the sublime meadows on Bald Mountain's Southern slope.

From here you'll descend to the Kettle Crest North Trail #13.

Flora & Fauna

This has to be one of the top wildflower spots in WA. It is a little hidden gem that not many will find.
