Description

Starting from the C&O Canal, the trail ascends the western slope of Elk Ridge on an old military road. Hikers will pass the short Naval Gun Trail spur and Stone Fort Trail, which provide excellent views and good places to either extend the trip or take a short break.

The trail then descends on a singletrack path to the cliffs above Harpers Ferry with outstanding views to the west.
