Description

Start at the intersection with Martin Creek Trail #429 and Foggy Dew #417 Section I. You'll soon come to an intersection, stay right. Shortly you'll come to a steep boulder field climb after which the trail will flatten for a short while as it opens into Merchants Basin with views of the ridges all around. The trail through this part becomes a deep rut at times.

You'll come to an intersection with Sunrise Lake Tr 417B, stay right. As you get closer to the ridge in front of you, the trail will turn to the right and begin to climb steeply with loose footing. After this not too long but steep climb, you'll reach the ridge with a view of Cooney Lake directly in front of you down below.

Flora & Fauna

Wildflowers fill the field and marmots sun themselves on the rocks. Also, in the fall the larch trees provide for a colorful landscape.
