This route does a great job of piecing together some of the trails in the North Cheyenne Canyon area of Colorado Springs and South. It follows creeks much of the way, includes St. Mary Falls, and gives you a chance to add some mileage if you want to summit Mt. Rosa.
Features: Fall Colors — River/Creek — Views — Waterfall
The parking area can get a bit crazy in the summer. Get there early and be aware that, though you'll have solitude for the majority of this trip, as is typical, the closer you are to the trailhead the more people you'll see, with seven bridges likely being crazy busy on summer weekends.
Park at the Old Gold Camp Rd.
trailhead. Proceed up Gold Camp Rd.
to the horseshoe, turning Right onto Seven Bridges
trail. At the top of Seven Bridges
, cross the creek and start up trail #622. This will quickly intersect with Pipeline Trail (668). The first few miles of Pipeline are super enjoyable, uphill but not steep, with stream crossings. At the top, take a left onto trail 701, and you'll quickly end up in Frosty's Park.
At the Frosty's Park trailhead, take a left back into another gate for trail #672 (Nelson's). This trail will climb for the next mile+ up to the ridgeline, with Mt. Rosa on your right as you hit the ridgeline.
Continue down Nelson's until it ends with a dirt road. Take a right, and you'll quickly see s gate on your left for the access to #624, the St. Mary Falls Trail
. Head downhill, checking out the waterfall (or dunking in it) when you get there. At the bottom, continue on the closed portion of Gold Camp Rd.
back to your car.
