Description

From the saddle between Shrine Mountain and Wingle Ridge, the Wingle Ridge Trail leads off towards the south. Ascend the broad grassy crest, frolicking in the wildflowers if the spirit moves you. There are spectacular views of Mount of the Holy Cross to the west for the entire route. Reach a rocky point with Copper ski area and the Tenmile Range arrayed to the south before you.

Continue down onto the bowl and across the hillside to where the trail eventually peters out. This cirque often holds a huge cornice of snow all summer. Hard to believe, but Wingle Ridge/Peak is higher in elevation than the better known Shrine Mountain. Views to the north include the craggy Gore Range and Shrine Mountain itself.

This trail is open to hiking and equestrian use in summer. No mountain bikes. Wear blaze orange in the fall to be visible to hunters. This area sees heavy use in the winter from backcountry skiers, snowshoers, and snowmobilers. Winter travel info.

Flora & Fauna

Deer, elk, marmot, chipmunks.
