“A 10-mile hike covering many distinct wildlife settings and beautiful views.”— Robert Nack
Once you pass the visitor center, head down to the river on the mowed grass on the south side of the road. It doesn't really look like the path, but just keep heading until you get passed the guard rails near the bottom of the hill.
From there, loop around the picnic areas, lake, campsites, and along the boat landings and finally head back up the hill on the same path you came down on. That last hill climb will definitely hurt, but it's worth it once you get to the finish.
This hike will take you through parts of Wedge Hill Savanna Trail, Beaver Lodge Trail, Wetland Trail, Prairie Overlook Trail, Rolling Hills Savanna Trail, Woodland Eagle Trail, Hardwood Hills Trail, and Riverside Trail.
Northern pike‚ walleye‚ bass‚ and brook trout can all be found within the St. Croix River. Numerous springs and streams flowing through heavily wooded valleys and ravines provide excellent wildlife habitat for raccoon‚ minks‚ beavers‚ and woodchucks. Stumble upon white-tail deer and fox in the upland meadows and woods. Birdwatchers frequently spot bald eagles, red-shouldered hawks, woodpeckers‚ bluebirds‚ orioles‚ herons, and a variety of warblers.
