Overview

With views of the Green Mountains and White Mountains, the Waterbury Trail to the summit of Hunger Mountain makes for an incredible out-and-back trail in the Stowe area.

Need to Know

There is a river crossing a mile up and a stream crossing about half way up. Both can be tricky based on the amount of snow runoff.

Description

From the trailhead, follow the blue blazes up the obvious trail. The trail quickly becomes steep and maintains this grade for the majority of its ~2 mile ascent. Once atop Hunger Mountain, enjoy the spectacular views of the Green Mountains to the west and Groton State Forest and the White Mountains to the east.

The top half mile of the ascent becomes tricky and can be snow covered into early May. The last stretch of the ascent includes a little bit of scrambling to reach the open summit of Hunger Mountain.
