This trail is best traveled in the spring or fall due to the extreme heat and lack of shade in the summer.
Description
There are many ways to hike this route, but the most common is to park at The Wedge Overlook (39.094664, -110.756478) and start hiking from there.
The trail travels right along the edge of the canyon providing unbelievable views the entire way. The trail is mostly smooth with occasional rocks and sandy spots and weaves in and out through some desert scrub and trees. There is minimal elevation gain the entire route since you are hiking along the edge of a sheer cliff, although there are some occasional dips through washes where you'll lose and gain a few feet of elevation at a time. At roughly the 9-mile mark, you'll be at the peak of the route which passes through a campground. This is a good spot to drop water/food in advance and there are numerous places to stash items.
You can also do this hike as an out-and-back for a 50k. You can also start at the campground located halfway through the route and hike one section of the trail as an out-and-back and then the other section as an out-and-back.
There are bathrooms and picnic tables at The Wedge Overlook, but no other services (such as water).
Flora & Fauna
This is a high desert landscape with minimal flora and fauna.
