Description

In 2007, the Castle Rock Fire exploded up Rooks Creek, torching much of the drainage. The canyon bottom, however, was spared from intense burning. Then in 2014 the trail was reconstructed in many parts of the drainage, turning a trail that was overgrown before the fire in 2007 into a pleasant hike. The trail remains a steady climb to the ridge - that was not fixed by the heavy trail work in 2014.

This trail is not as smooth as the trail systems close to town and will certainly have some technical rock features along the way. There are a few landslides that cut across the path of the trail due to the 2007 fire. The most notable and largest is around the halfway point.

Rooks Creek is also a great way to access the Osberg Ridge Trail or to create some loops towards Adams Gulch.

There was a lot of mining activity on the slopes of Boyle Mountain and a few structures remain in the bottom of Rooks Creek about a mile up the trail.
