Description

The Dark Angel formation is a 150-foot sandstone column rising improbably from the desert floor. It stands isolated and desolate, away from other rock formations. Its darkened varnish rock faces are capped by its own slightly overhanging upper reaches. Dark Angel can be seen from various points in the park including the parking area.

The Dark Angel Trail leaves from the end of the Devils Garden Main Trail at a signed junction just south of Double O Arch. The Dark Angel trail is a nearly level out-and-back and easy to follow. If you are lucky you may see rock climbers ascending the west face of Dark Angel tower. This pillar was climbed first in the 1960's and is rated a 5.11 (two pitches).

Note: bikes are not allowed on this trail.

Easy trail to follow to get out to Dark Angel. Did it in the morning, no one else out there.
