Description

Starting from the Redwood Grove picnic area, head steadily uphill into lush Wildcat Canyon following a seasonal stream. Several 100-year old redwood trees fill these canyons. Contour around the hillsides, ducking into ravines on a gently undulating path. You'll know the massive Pioneer Tree when you see it. Its 500-year old trunk was hollowed out by fire. Switchback downhill along Irving Creek to the junction with the Cross Marin trail/bikepath and Sir Francis Drake Blvd.

Flora & Fauna

Douglas fir, redwood, tanoak, huckleberry, ferns, and hazelnut. In the winter, salmon sometimes spawn in Lagunitas Creek.
