This well-maintained trail travels through an ancient montane forest as it trends uphill at moderate grades. To get to the trailhead, follow the Dosewallips Rd. Trail from the washout for 5.5 miles to the ranger station. If you choose to hike the entirety of this trail, you'll reach Hayden Pass. The pass usually melts out in early July. Lower sections are snow-free much of the year but often have snow in winter and spring.

About two miles from the ranger station, you'll encounter a junction with the West Fork Dosewallips River Trail followed shortly thereafter by the Constance Pass Trail. Continue straight through both intersections to stay on the Dosewallips River Trail. Although this trail might not be as popular as many other trails in the Park, the scenery is still breathtaking. On the plus side, this trail sees far less traffic than the Park's most popular trails.
