Family Friendly Short, flat trail to the beach- easy access and fun for kids to poke around in the water.

Dogs allowed, but must be leashed. Dogs are permitted on the beach north of the trail, but not south of the trail (to protect plover habitat). Bikes are allowed on this trail.

Description

From the trailhead, the wide gravel path skirts the freshwater Kehoe Marsh where songbirds proliferate. Soon the wet habit turns to sandy dunes and the ocean appears. In spring (especially April), take a spur trail to the right near a bench to witness an explosion of wildflowers on the bluffs. Retrace your steps back to the regular Kehoe Beach trail for a picnic or relaxing stroll the wide sandy beach. Note: bikes are allowed on this trail.

Flora & Fauna

You may encounter cows on this trail. Also look for elusive brush rabbits, bobcats and mountain lions which are occasionally sighted in this area. In summer, sample the blackberries across the road from the trail head. Grasses, salmonberry, vines, ice plant, mustard weed, lupine, poppies.
