The mis-named Baldy Trail is a useful connector for making loops in the Bear Valley area.

Overview

Description

The Baldy Trail is a mostly wooded, fairly steady ascent of about 700' over 1.1 miles. It can be done in either direction and connects the Sky Trail with the Bear Valley trail. At the Bear Valley trail junction, the Glen Trail also leaves towards the south.

The Baldy Trail goes through deep forest, but the dense underbrush of Bear Valley is replaced by tall grass mixed with poison oak and stinging nettle. For that reason, some folks prefer to wear pants on this trail. The tall vegetation lining the trail also conceals ticks so make sure to check yourself. The forest opens up into meadows as you reach the highest part of the route and then travels level ground until its terminus.

Note: no bikes allowed on this trail.

Flora & Fauna

Live oak, honeysuckle.
