Upper Elk Lake. Glaciated peaks in the distance (left to right) - Mt. McCuiag (9,462 ft.), Mt. De Gaulle (9,686 ft.), Mt. Nivelle (10,683 ft.), and Mt. Casteinau (9.859 ft.). Nearby Mt. Elkan (9.056 ft.) upper right, rises from the lakeshore.

Impressive cliffs of Mount Fox, 9,754 ft., rise up above Upper Elk Lake, out of sight below.
Cute porcupine on the trail next to Upper Elk Lake.
Distant glaciated peaks to the west, are seen from high on Viewpoint Trail.
Nearby turquoise Lower Elk Lake at the base of rugged cliffs and mountains, comes into view as Viewpoint Trail climbs.
Lower Elk Lake below. The Elk River Valley stretches into the distance, with its eastern slopes on the far side of it. This is the view from the end of Viewpoint Trail - definitely worth the effort.
