The view above Horseshoe Lake. There is an off-trail route that travels through the gap at center and continues around the ridge to Wah Hoo, Holster, and Bullet Lakes.
Some of the best pools are just west of where the trail reaches the North Fork Kings River. Swimming is better when the water is lower and warmer.

Lower McGuire Lake with the summit of Blackcap Mountain on the left side.
Portal Lake can be gorgeous in the summer.
