The trail can be narrow and rocky in places.
While it's a nice downhill on the way to Andrews Bald, it's an uphill climb back to the top of the trail at Clingmans Dome Parking Lot. Thanks to the work of the Friends of the Smokies, rocks have been put in places as steps to help with this climb.

The final push as you near the Clingmans Dome Parking Lot. You can see the dead fir trees, victims of the sap sucking balsam woolly adelgid.
Even if you are unable to hike the trail, you'll enjoy the views at the base.
