Tarr Ridge West Overlook [Suggest Edits]

Description

Amazing near-panoramic view of the Red River, 715 and 77. From the parking lot for the geological area (Tarr East) walk on the road until you see the USFS signage. If you try to cut across you will be in brambles up to your elbows. FR 175 is not terribly well maintained, and Winter or Early Spring is probably the best time of year to visit this gem. The end of the trail offers several vantage points and allows for some serious contemplation with very little interference from the outside world. The valley below is stunning in all four seasons but spring is my favorite when the trail to the viewpoint is loaded with mountain laurel.

Short Hike: 1.4 miles along FR 175, through a small glen with a pond and some beautiful wildflowers.
